WINNER

Sarah Lockwood-Lee

Reason for nomination

Sarah leads on Deapp, which was started by the CYPEMDN. CYP newly diagnosed with T1D are given Deapp to watch by a HCP who will then play with the child using physical resources to check their knowledge. Sarah works in partnership with units across CYPEMDN to bring the scripts to life, and helped to design the resources and games; and De Montfort Uni who turned the ideas into animations and physical resources. Sarah is instrumental in setting up and delivering the HCP education programme, which teaches flipped learning to provide the same education in a very different mode of delivery.

Results/outcomes achievement

Sarah’s insight and knowledge of how children learn through play is fantastic. Her skills and enthusiasm has been passed onto HCP’s across CYPEMDN. Sarah is helping to roll Deapp out across UK by already delivering training to over 80 HCP’s. Sarah attended an international diabetes conference with an abstract on Deapp. We got interest from 40 countries and she is working with them to discuss international adoption. Sarah continues to develop Deapp by working with CYPEMDN to develop additional languages, a pump app, a transition and psychology section to ensure that Deapp will be a success.
