HIGHLY COMMENDED
Facing challenges – Making the most of what you have!
by King Edward VII Hospital Windsor (Frimley Health Foundation Trust)
Between 2018-2020 three consultant dermatologists in our department left the Trust. The dermatology service immediately came under threat with the cessation of specialty clinics and severely reduced capacity. Key aims were stabilising the department and then focusing on rebuilding services using the available resources. Facing this challenge required a huge commitment from the dermatology team. Remaining motivated and using intelligent solutions to continue to provide high quality services were high on the team agenda. A concerted team effort has led to us not only achieving our initial goals but actually surpassing expectation to be a leading service in the Trust.
Judges’ comments:
“The Facing Challenges project was commendable, run by a very motivated clinical lead. The judges liked seeing the focus on staff mental health and it demonstrated a change in working practice. It was brilliant to see the recognition and commitment involved and that it encompassed wider teams, such as plastics and gynaecological teams. They have done very impressive work, making the most of what they have. The project is a good design for efficient and effective teamwork.”
