Pilot Psychodermatology Clinic in South London

A local psychodermatology clinic has been piloted in South London since March 2022 to support the local community’s skin and mental health at St George’s Hospital. A Consultant Dermatologist and a specialty psychiatry Trainee deliver the clinic biweekly, demonstrating consistent patient satisfaction and addressing patients’ needs. The clinic’s success is demonstrable in year one and reaudit in year two of the service. We hope that commissioners will consider formally funding the expansion of the local Skin and Mind service regionally.

Judges’ comments:

The entry from St George’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was a worthy winner, providing support in an underserved area. Psychodermatology is very under served in the UK and mostly this is down to funding. This approach using a derm consultant and trainee in psych helps to prove the concept and benefit and hopefully it will now be better supported by the trust. It is reproducible and it has been well shared. The feedback from both service users and clinicians was thorough.
