Summary

Good gum health is the key to good general health. Maintaining good gum health can prevent the onset of multiple health problems, ranging from bleeding gums, tooth loss and bad breath to diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

Gumsaver™ is specifically designed to remove the bacteria from teeth below the gum line which can often be missed by regular toothbrushes. Gumsaver is proven to not only treat and prevent gum disease but it will also improve oral health, prevent tooth loss and in some cases encourage bone re-generation.

Results

To assess the efficacy of the system a study of 93 subjects was carried out. Each participant presented pocket depths of 3.5mm - 10mm (BPE Score 3 or 4), which is a clear indication of periodontal disease.

A control group of 47 subjects (19 male and 28 female) were given standard British Periodontal Society (BPS) recommended oral hygiene instructions, as well as traditional treatments including full mouth root planning, scaling and polishing. In addition to the standard BPS recommended treatment, the test group, which consisted of 46 subjects (22 male and 24 female), were also given instructions on how to use the Gumsaver™ system.

After six months the periodontal status of the subjects in the control group improved. The majority of the control group reduced their pocket depths to a BPE score of 2 or 3. However, in the test group, 63 per cent of the subjects presented BPE scores of 0 or in other words, the periodontal disease was completely eradicated.

Challenge

Almost 90 per cent of adults in the UK have a degree of gum disease. If left untreated, gum disease can develop into the more serious form of the disease known as periodontitis.

Not only is periodontal disease a painful burden on individual, it is the leading cause of tooth loss and a significant public health challenge. Furthermore, epidemiological studies confirm its links with systematic diseases such as Type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Solution

Gumsaver™ is specifically designed to remove the bacteria from teeth below the gum line, which can often be missed by regular toothbrushes and traditional ‘scraping’ techniques.

The system comprises of an ergonomically designed brush, along with a simple 3-step technique. This oral health system empowers the individual to self-treat, self-manage and ultimately prevent a re-occurrence of gum disease.

Gumsaver™ comprises of an elongated handle that ends as a bifurcated bristle set, each end containing a tapered bristle head, which can be moved slightly apart. By performing circular brushing motions, bacteria rooted deep inside the inter-dental space is removed by the angled brush tips.

Client Verdict

“A male patient in his 50s with Type 2 Diabetes presented himself with periodontal disease – he had severely bleeding gums. He informed me that his gums has always bled but were bleeding more and getting increasingly worse since his diabetes was diagnosed. I suggested that he trial the Gumsaver™ brush as part of his self care routine and in just a couple of days, his bleeding was reduced.”
